Macs With Packs is Back!

Hello and welcome back to our little blog! Yes, the travelling Macs are loading up their packs and heading off again, only this time it's just John and I. The kids are both at uni. After having to come home last year after only one month of what was going to be a 6-month trip, John and I are keen to pick up where we left off.

We head off on the 7th of April. Our first destination is Turkey where we plan to walk the Lycian Way. This is a coastal walk, roughly 500kms long, from Fethiye to Antalya in the south. Don't be alarmed - this is well away from any troubles. The walk will take us about a month. It's quite a hard walk with long days and lots of hills but it looks amazing. There are some parts that we just can't do as you have to carry a tent a we don't plan to do that.

We only decided 3 or 4 weeks ago that this is what we are doing so we've had a rather rushed fitness preparation. John's new knee has been holding up amazingly well. He's rapt. Unfortunately, the same injury that caused his knee issues is also causing a few other leg problems. I've also had an issue just a couple of days ago where I had to get a suspicious spot cut out from my leg. It turned out to be harmless but it has stopped me training. We can only do the best prep we can with the time we have and see how it goes. There is public transport available near many parts of the route so if need be we can catch a bus and move on.

After Turkey we plan to hop along the Croatian islands. John wants to buy a bike so he can keep his riding up. In June, we're having a reunion of the reunion that we had last year on Halki, where's John's cousin's wife has a house. That'll be a big week! After a bit of exploring nearby islands we will head to England to catch up with a few friends. We are also doing a short walk in the South Downs. After that we head to Paris to meet up with our good friends and we will travel through France, Italy and back down to Greece.

We plan to be away for seven months but there are a few issues arising already that could possibly bring us home earlier. We just learned this week that the wind farm size increase that we have been fighting was approved. We could now be looking at taking further legal action. We will do as much as we can before we leave then see how it pans out.

Also, we're still not sure if our kids can join us in their mid-year break. We don't think we can go seven months without seeing them!

So we leave without really knowing how long we'll be away for but we're trying hard to make it work!

As always, please don't feel under any obligation to follow this blog. It's totally up to you. It's just a convenient way to keep in touch.

Hooroo!
